What is AdBlue ?

This is a common question as AdBlue is a chemical solution that has only recently begun to be widely used in diesel vehicles and diesel-powered industrial machinery. In Thailand, its adoption has grown significantly in recent years.

AdBlue, also known as Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), is a high-purity urea solution specifically formulated for diesel engines (automotive grade). It contains 32.5% urea, which is why it is sometimes referred to as Aqueous Urea Solution 32 (AUS 32). AdBlue is designed for use in Euro 5 and Euro 6 diesel vehicles equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems to reduce exhaust emissions from the combustion of diesel fuel.

Why Do Diesel Vehicles Need AdBlue?

During the combustion of diesel fuel, harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) are produced, which are pollutants harmful to both the environment and human health. Euro 5 and Euro 6 emission standards strictly regulate the allowable levels of NOx emissions to ensure vehicles are more environmentally friendly.

AdBlue is injected into the vehicle’s SCR system, where it reacts with exhaust gases to convert NOx into nitrogen (N₂) and water vapor (H₂O) — both natural components of the air we breathe. This process significantly reduces air pollution and helps diesel vehicles comply with international emission standards.
